Ball in Davenport’s court regarding Leeds United future

Calum Davenport, who has been training with Leeds United, has returned to London and United are waiting to hear where the former West Ham central defender believes his future lies.

Davenport, 27, has not played competitive football since being stabbed in both legs a year ago.

He left the Hammers in March and scored in a pre-season friendly against Bradford Park Avenue while on trial at Elland Road.

Now, it seems, the ball is in the former England Under-21 international’s court.

Leeds manager Simon Grayson explained: “He has gone back to London to sort out a few things and to decide what he wants to do. It is his decision.

“We have not discarded him or anything like that. There are a couple of personal things he needs to sort out before deciding what he is going to do. He showed us what he is capable of when he was training with us.”

Meanwhile, injured duo Robert Snodgrass (knee) and Billy Paynter (shin) have started running as they steadily build up to full fitness.
