Otley countryside club launched
11:47am Friday 3rd September 2010
A new club has started to encourage children to step away from the temptations of modern technology and back into the great outdoors.
Otley Chevin will play host to the Nature Watch Club, which is aiming to introduce eight to 12-year-olds to the woodland and wildlife of West Yorkshire.
Running on the first Sunday of every month, starting this weekend, parks and countryside rangers will be on hand to help children explore the countryside and learn about wildlife.
Senior parks and countryside ranger Emma Trickett said: “Children today spend less time outdoor than any other generation so it’s important they are given chances to get outside and engage with nature and wildlife.
“Children are missing out on the kind of free-range upbringing many of us had as, and this club will provide them with an excellent opportunity to have these important experiences.”
